WEEK FOUR: DEVELOPMENT IDEAS #3 - COLOUR THEORY

The second and third sessions this week were based on the development of our initial idea with the use of colours. We therefore had to make at least four photocopies of the sketch we intended to work with.

With that in mind, I will be showing in this blog post how I carried out this task and the ideas behind my chosen colours.

For this task, we had the option to choose from four different colour theories. With the image in Fig 1, I used the split complementary colour theory (Red, Green and yellow). The main colour was red which then had a split complementary of yellow and green. Red was chosen because while I was doing the last task on the research sheet, during my research, I found out that the Connecticut River (one of my initial ideas)  has some red features

The image in Fig 2 was my first attempt at this task, the colour theory I used was also the split complementary in purple, Blue, and orange. There was no idea behind this particular image because I am usually not too comfortable with colours, so I chose three colours and applied them to the sketch.

Next, I went back to my research sheet to look at the visual research of Sol Lewitt, which displays a polychromatic scheme. This was the idea I emulated in Fig 3, trying to make a polychromatic design.

The final image [Fig 4] was inspired by the vegetation surrounding the Connecticut River. These flowers have really bright colours, so I chose one that had a purple colour which was the base of this colour theory. I then decided to use analogous colours ( purple, purple-blue, and blue).
