WEEK EIGHT : REFLECTION

In October 2023, I began my academic journey in DMUIC and one of the modules that was required was Art Portfolio. The module was divided into two terms, over these two terms, I have learnt a range of different skills and designed two major projects during my learning process.

Focusing on this term, as a group we were tasked with redeveloping a town which was destroyed by a tragic fire, each getting a brief of what we would be designing and what should be included in this design. I was given a brief to design a cultural centre, this was something I was not familiar with prior, however, after my initial research and initial ideas generations, I understood better what I needed to do.

Although the process of designing this building was not a easy process, I have been able to lean and understand the importance of going over and syncing the ideas and styles of professional architects and designers' works with my own design as a way of learning from them. This is one of the skills I have been able to learn during the course of the two terms.

In addition, I have also been able to learn and develop other skills. In regards to digital skills, I have learnt and made use of a variety of software for my projects such as Procreate, AutoCAD,  Sketchup, and Illustrator as shown in Fig 1, Fig 2, Fig 3, and Fig 4 respectively

Fig 1                                                              Fig 2                                                  Fig 3

Fig 4                                                            Fig 5                                                       Fig 6

Another vital skill that I have developed in the past two terms was my 3D modelling skill, I struggled initially when I made the first one in the first term of Art Portfolio, however, I got to understand more about how the model works in terms two which help me construct a more successful model in term two of Art Portfolio, these are shown in Fig 5, and Fig 6 above.

In conclusion, the two terms of art portfolio and been a great tool for my learning and growth in the field of architecture. I have been able to learn and understand the blend between theoretical knowledge and practical application. At this point, I have set a solid foundation for my progression into DMU to further strengthen my base in the field of architecture. I look forward to expanding my knowledge in the coming years.
