SECOND TERM REFLECTION

At the beginning of this term, I had a client (my tutor), who gave me the option to choose between three themes and create a project based on the theme I chose. The themes provided were Primitivism, Industrialism, and Pop art. After critically analyzing all three themes, I was initially stuck and confused, I did not know which theme to go with or an idea of the project to do. Finally, after further research on the themes provided, I chose to work with 'Pop art' and my project was to design a children's hospital.

Moving on we had a couple of initial idea generation tasks to carry out, but honestly speaking, mine did not turn out well, however, it was part of the process. It was not until the object lesson that I finally got a good idea that I could work with for my task. The summary of this is that in the first few weeks, I struggled with catching up with the rest of my pair, but I challenged myself and caught up with the pace I was meant to be, and progressed with my project development.

For the project, we were meant to design at least six 2-dimensional outcomes and 1 3-dimensional outcome. For my 2D outcome, I started by making some handmade sketches of the design of my project which came out pretty well, then I proceeded to use other digital software to design more outcomes like elevations and floorplans. The digital software I used for these were, SketchUp, Sketchup Layout, Procreate, and Photoshop. I attempted to use other software but either it did not turn out as I imagined or there was not enough time to learn it, for example, I attempted to use 'homesbyme' and 'smarthomes' to design my floor plan but I did not quite like the outcome I was getting, I also attempted to use AutoCAD but it was too complicated and I did not have enough time to learn it.

After completing my 2D outcomes, I moved on to the creation of my 3D outcome, I planned the creation of my 3D model properly, and I am happy with how I was able to follow this plan properly. And as a result, took me just over a week to complete my 3D model. For this model, I used a variety of workshops like woodwork, model making, and 3D printing, I also had to use another digital software during the creation of this model which has helped expand the range of my digital skills. I love the final outcome of my 3D model except for the fact that it did not turn out as neat and clean as I would have loved, but it is part of the learning process, and now I know the mistakes I made and will make sure to avoid those mistakes in the future.

Overall, this term project has helped me learn a lot of new skills and develop the little skills I had before, which was the goal I set in the first blog of this term. I will make sure to take the lesson I have learnt during the period of this term and make sure to abide by them in any future project I will embark on.
