2D OUTCOME: SKETCHUP RENDERING

Showing a variety of different digital skills is part of what we are meant to do during the process of working on our project, for this reason, I decided to use SketchUp as one of the digital software for the development of my project. This post will show the process of using SketchUp to develop my project design.

As stated in some of my previous blogs, I had an organic shape as the structural concept of my design initially, but, I was having difficulties developing this idea which made me move from organic form to geometric form. Here is an image of my trying SketchUp for the first time on this project with the organic shapes.

I was not sure how to develop it from here so I stopped. After I got the idea to move to geometric shapes, I decided to give Sketchup another go. At this time, I had already done my site plan research, so I imported an image of the site to SketchUp to get the shape of the site and work with that.

Displayed above is the entire process I took in using SketchUp in designing my project.
After getting the shape of the site, I started to make the shape of the building without really using any particular measurement, but just following the shape of the site. After drawing the shape of the building, I then extruded the shape, making three floors ( ground floor, first floor, and second floor). I then added some details to the body of the building.

After I was done with the building, I then started working on the environment of the building, adding roads and car parks to the design.

Following this was the addition of features like grass, roads, glass to the building, and so on. This concluded the main work on SketchUp. Then I started trying other features available, like changing it to a line drawing, and photo modeling which is the one in the greenish colour. I also played around with adding shadows to the design to make it look more realistic.

This was how I used SketchUp to render my project design for this term.
