WELCOME TO SPRING TERM 2024

Welcome to the spring term, I am writing this post to show the commencement of this new term.

For this term, I would love to explore and develop more of the skills that I have learnt in the previous term, for example, drawing of architectural buildings was one aspect that I struggled with last term and I would be dedicated to improve this aspect of my drawing skill, either one-point perspective or two-point perspectives this term. Being able to improve on this particular aspect of a drawing skill would help me this term in developing my project. I also was able to learn a little about using photoshop and Sketchup, but unfortunately the knowledge I was able to grasp about these digital software was really vague, and as a result of that, I would love to expand my knowledge on these particular software and more that would be related to my subject area (architecture).

During the break, I was inspired by a series I watched named "Outer Banks", the series was about hunting a treasure of gold that was thought to be lost in a shipwreck over a hundred years ago, but there was just one survivor from the wreck who had all the gold to himself but he was enslaved and killed. Before he was killed he was able to hide the gold and left some key information on how to find the gold for his son. what made this inspiring for me was the treasure hunt, and also in relation to my subject area, the design of the cross of Santo Domingo, it was part of the gold that was on the ship. The design of the ship named "The Royal Merchant" was also eye-catching for me.

ICE BREAKER EXERCISE
During the first class for this term, we were tasked with an icebreaker exercise to recreate a particular image that was provided by the tutor. I was paired up with my partners and we decided to recreate the image of Mr and Mrs Andrews, Thomas Gainsborough, 1750.

The image above was a portrait made by Thomas Gainsborough at the early stages of his career. It was a painting of Mr Robert Andrews and his wife Mrs Frances Andrews sitting on a bench. The painting was made using oil on canvas as the medium, and has a dimension of 69.8 by 119.4cm (Gainsborough, 2019).

Below is the recreated version created by my partners and I.

  1. What about developing your digital skills? For some students the first term is the first time they have used these processes to make their designs - was this the case for you? You mention improving your drawing skills, but to what end? Is this in general or more focused on architectural drawing skills and processes? The first paragraph isn't clear enough, edit this post and include more detail.

Why was the design of the ship eye catching? What era was this ship from? Why write about this and not anything else? How do you think you can apply this to your design work either from last term or this term? Where did you see 'Outer Banks'?

You will need references to show where you found your images.

    1. I did not really do anything during the break that I can write about, and in class you spoke about movies that we watched during the break, but I do not watch movies instead I usually watch series which is why I spoke about this because that was what I watched during the break. The series doesn't really have any relationship with what we are doing in school which is why it is difficult to write about.
