WEEK THREE: FINAL PROJECT RESEARSH AND IDEAS DEVELOPMENT
Subject Area: Architecture
Project
Title: Boarding school
Project Aims and Objectives:
For my architecture project, I will design a boarding school for young students looking to pursue their dreams and develop their talents in Nigeria. This school is going to be well invested in order to make it a really suitable and conducive place to learn. The site will be located in an urban area in Nigeria with a good amount of land area as it is going to be a big school. For this project, I will create 2-4 architectural design boards that will include the concept and a concept drawing, floorplans, elevations, site details, and environmental factors. This design is meant to be completed on or before the 5th of December 2023. I would be researching architects such as; Frank Lloyd Wright, Frank Gehry, and Kunle Adeyemi. For this project, I will be using software such as Wix, blogger, and SketchUp
I
will be researching the following designers / Architectures’: Frank Gehry
I will be using the following Digital Software: For this project, I will be using a software called Sketchup. Sketchup is a 3D modelling software application that allows one create and edit 2D and 3D model
What does an architecture’ design board look like?
1. The Architecture that inspires you: Frank
Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry
FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
fr Frank Lloyd was an American designer and architect who designed over a thousand designs before he died on the 9th of April, 1959 in Arizona, he was born on June 8, 1867. He was known to have developed the Prairie style and the organic style of architecture that aimed to blend in with natural landscape.
FRANK GEHRY
Frank Gehry is an American architect and designer who has designed a large amount of building that has created attractions to them. His works are mostly focused on expressionism which in turn generates a lot of attractions
Target audience –age group: students between 10-19, and their parents,
gender: male and females
ARCHITECTS MOODBOARD
By definition, a mood board is an assemblage of colors, textures, prints, materials, or other design elements that make up a project's identity. These elements are often gathered during the design process and ideation stage, and serve as inspiration for what the project will look like. Stouhi, D. (2021)
Style
of architecture
The style of architecture this design would be based on is modern architecture. The fact that I am inspired by Frank Gehry, the buildings may not just be straight buildings.
Site plan analysis
An
estimate of 10 acres of land will be needed for this project as it is going to
include classroom buildings, hostel buildings, and also some landed areas for sport
activities and others.
The building is not going to be a tall building it is just going to have a small number of flours, which would not really be affected by wind. But Nigeria is not known to be a very windy place, especially Abuja. What it is known for is how sunny and hot it can be, which is why this project is going to focus more on solar radiation as it would also be used for conversion into electricity as the electricity in Nigeria is poor.
Abuja
has a really rocky and sandy soil texture which is going to be helpful in building
a solid foundation for the buildings.
1. Water
2. Sand
3. Cement
4. Granite
5. Concrete
6. Metal
7. Wood
8. POP (Plaster of Paris)
9. Glass
10. Paint
11. Plumbing materials
Environment
This is a school in Lagos,
Nigeria. This building is situated in the smallest and most populated town in Nigeria
and the designers were able to focus on creating a very good modern building
even if it is difficult to find a large amount of land in Lagos.
Lagos is quite similar to
Abuja (the location of my design) because it was once the capital of Nigeria before
it was moved to Abuja which has a whole more land area.
Form
and function
The
function of the building would be to create a safe, secure, and comfortable home away from home for the
students that would be studying in the school
