WEEK FOUR: SITE PLAN ANALYSIS - DATA
In my last blog, I wrote about research on the white crane lane visitors centre, about the site and how it should influence the design. In this blog post, I will be discussing the data that I have gathered for my site analysis.
SITE LOCATION
The site chosen for the culture centre project is located in the north of New Cromwell. The site is close to two major parks, the Dinosaur State Park up north from the site and the river highland park to the east of New Cromwell beside the Connecticut River which is the only landmark left in the town.
CIRCULATION
A very drastic event happened in Cromwell which was where a fire took over the entire town leaving people homeless and destroying everything in the town including buildings and roads, due to this event the current situation of my site is that it is empty as the fire service had cleared everything. The only roads left were the main st (99) road which is just beside the site that leads out of Cromwell and road 9 which leads into the town centre and goes out of Cromwell through the west.

VEGETATION
Just like the roads and the house which had been sadly brought down by the fire, so were the vegetation of Cromwell. This event happened almost a year ago, and without being able to visit the site, it would be fair to assume that some of the vegetation would have grown back. Cromwell before the fire was a very blossomy town with a lot of flowers and green spaces like two parks in the north and east of Cromwell.
WEATHER
When I was gathering the data for the weather of the site, I looked at some weather-related topics like; humidity, temperature, wind patterns and also sunrise and sunset which I will break down below.
Firstly, humidity, I stumbled across a very good website that gives a range of current and historical weather data, and this website named ventusky was where I got my data from. Cromwell tends to have a high humidity going up to 90% especially towards the end of the year and the beginning of the year, while the rest of the year is relatively average in terms of the humidity percentage ranking between 40% and 60%.
Secondly, temperature, the data collected from looking in the ventusky website is that Cromwell has its highest temperature usually between the months of June and September going up to 30 degrees celcius and in contrast, its lowest temperature is between the months of December and March which drops down to -14 degree celcius, while the other months have a relatively normal temperature between the range of 9 and 17 degrees Celcius.
Thirdly, wind patterns, I looked at the speed of wind in Cromwell and it shows the wind speed is just the normal wind speed not going too high, early in the year it has a gentle breeze going up to 10mph, and has the year goes on the wind speed progressively goes up and down and with that, we can say the wind speed fluctuates throughout the year.

A bit lacking in detail here - you discuss the vegetation without reflecting on what is native to the area, for example.
ReplyDeleteThe data on weather and sunshine hours could have been posted elsewhere with a reflection on how this might affect your design - in terms of materials, orientation of the building etc
