WEEK THREE: Initial Research - Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre
So far this term, I have been given a brief to design a Cultural Centre in the town of Cromwell and I have sketched some ideas that have ended up leading to what I have gone with as my final design. As I mentioned in the previous blog post about how this idea came about, this blog post will be a continuation of that, mainly focused on the research that I have done so far to back this idea.
After the completion of this design, I went on to look at architectural designs that were linked to my project in terms of the design being either a cultural centre (my set project this term) or a museum which has similarities to a cultural centre, and also to in terms of something similar to the design style which I have gone for. As my search went on, I came across the Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre in Xi’an designed by Zara Hadid Architects.
The building has a really eye-catching design which was what initially moved me to look into it but as my research continued, I came to the realisation that this design actually has a good amount of similarities with what I have gone with as the design for my project this term.
The design has a natural organic form which Arquitectura Viva, 2022 says is a symbolic representation of the Jinghe River flowing through the Shaanxi Province’s mountains and landscape. The design has a connecting feature which flows across the eight-lane motorway on Jinghe Avenue conjoining the whole main buildings together, the design being a Culture and Art centre including features like a multimedia library, a flexible performance art theatre, multifunctional halls, studios, and exhibition galleries (Dezeen, 2022).
There are a number of related features between this Jinghe New City Culture & Art Centre and my intended design outcome which is why I have decided that as the term goes on and the development of my project continues, I will keep on referring to this architectural design to learn more thing that will strengthen my project alongside other research that I will carry out this term.
This initial research post was a way of showing that I have started my research process and just giving a brief introduction of the research that I will be doing this term, and as a follow-up on this post, I will further my research on more architectural designs that are linked to my project and research on the site and demographics as this would help in finalising the outcome of my design.

Good research post, you've made some strong links to the previous post and the motivations behind the design. Need to see the pre project outline on here and direction in which you are taking your project from here onwards.
