Week One: IDEA GENERATION TASK

 

For this terms project, we were handed an architectural brief which included our  set project for this term and details of what is expected to be added in the design. Having received this brief, I went on to make an idea genereation task to just get my initial thoughts on paper just after my first glance on the brief. This post would be used to talk about this this mind map I did in the image above and what my thought process was while I was doing it.

The first thing I did after staring at a blank paper for a while what to go through the brief again and the site map and write down the things that I would think about when designing the stucture of the building. On the top left corner of the image, I wrote the things to think about when designing the building structure and they include; the number of floors that the building could possibly have, the main features of the building and how it would impact the spacial approach of the design, the location and size of the site (thinking about things like natural lighting, immediate environment and other major things about the site). I then moved to the buttom corner of the image and wrote the things to think about in respect to the surroundings, and I wrote down, transportation, parks , rivers, culture, town/country, plants/vegetation/landscape, and animal, these are things I internd to research about this site that would end up helping me determing the design of this building. 

With the page still having a lot of spacde, I thought  to just do a qiuck sketch of a floor plan including all the features that were writen down in the brief of how it may be, there was not really any idea behind it, it was basically by hand just moving in the paper, which it why that is not going to  be my actual design but could be used and a tool to go back to and maybe pick an idea that could help with this. 

Following this initial idea generation task carried out, I will attempt to go some research on cultural centre which in my project this time, research on the site and the location, and also artist that their work could be displayed in the cultural centre as it may also contribute to the design of the design ideas of the building.
