Term Two Project; Research on concept and inspiration
For this piece of research, I am going to be focused on the on the concept and inspiration of my desired project and go into details about the meaning and effectiveness of the concept which is based on the infinity symbol.
My term two project (Children's Hospital) has a structural concept based on the infinity symbol which was generated in the ideas generation task carried out earlier this term.
Meaning and History of the Infinity Symbol
The meaning of the word 'infinity' is that it has no limit neither does it have an end. The word was derived from the from a word in a Latin 'Infinitas'. The infinity symbol can be linked with a number of meaning related to nature, religion, harmony and balance, regeneration and a lot more. The meaning of the infinity symbol can be elaborated to a very vast meaning. Infinity carries a spiritual meaning, despite it being known mainly as a mathematic symbol (Anon, 2021). My project is mainly going to be focused on harmony and balance because it has a genuine link and connection to the idea of my project.
Balance in architecture is the use of symmetrical and asymmetrical elements within a design to create a sense of visual stability and cohesiveness (www.architecturemaker.com, 2023). The term 'balance' can be linked with different amount of things, for example; balance could be the structural appearance of the building, the even allocation it the weight around the structure, it could also be the cohesion between the physical structure and the natural environment, these are the factors that are going to be implemented in my project to make it more successful. Harmony on the other hand is the pleasing result produced from the combination of various things giving it a bold and attractive feel. Incorporating this into my project would be about harmonizing the structural design with sustainable materials that will be conducive to the environment and the public.
Moving further through the term, I have been able to expand some ideas generated from this research into my work and sketches, after several drawing sketches and changing from organic shapes to geometric shapes in the experimentation and development task, I came up with an idea to make an infinity symbol that binds the two large buildings symbolizing connectivity, continuity, this is an idea that blends well with the main theme of the building which is based on a peaceful and lively environment for the children who would be living in the hospitals. Below are some of the images of sketches I made in week six.
This idea will be used in the main building idea and if possible will also be added to my 3D outcome.

In a post like this it would be good to give a better sense of the link to your own project, either through sketches you have made demonstrating the variety of ways of adapting this symbol to your project and through telling us what you are going to do next and HOW you are using this research. In Week 7 you demonstrated that the symbol structure would 'wrap' itself around the building - what does this mean? Is it like an embrace? This is a hospital for children - does this have any relevance??? (I think it does). Edit this post and flesh out your ideas.
