FIRST THOUGHT

For the project of this term, we are provided with three themes which we are to choose from. Primitivism, Pop art, and Industrialism.

PRIMITIVISM: From what I have understood today, Primitivism is the creation of art or design from the inspiration of historical, ancient, or cultural symbols and ideas. Primitivism can prove to be a good form of preservation for some cultures and also historical norms and values, it can also be a form of education to the younger generation that will not be fully aware of them. Based on the fact that it is not modern and up-to-date, the creation of some art and designs with this method may not be sustainable in our current environment. I can adapt primitivism into architecture by designing buildings that have significant connections with either how buildings were created in the past or the type of materials used in the past.

POP ART: Pop art to my understanding is a type of art that has a good relationship with the environment and environmental materials. Pop art includes the use of bright colours which are really eye-catching for the viewer, it could be a good form of entertainment as it is related to our everyday life. If I were to use Pop art as a theme for my project, I may think of creating a structure that would be a tourist site while incorporating the pop art theme. Pop Art out of these three themes is one that I am interested in for now for this term's project.

INDUSTRIALISM: My understanding of industrialism is that it is a form of revolution from an old way to a more contemporary way which would be more sustainable and appealing to the environment. Gentrification could be an example of industrialism as it is a form of redevelopment of a particular area. Concerning architecture, the theme of industrialism could be incorporated by discovering abandoned sites or locations and developing them into a more contemporary structure.

Out of the three theme talked about above, the one that interest me mostly is the pop art. I am interested in this theme because it has a really interesting and commanding appearance that can be incorporated into architecture by creating or designing a beautiful structure that can have a significant impact on the immediate environment.

  1. Okay, you have a brief outline of each theme, but don't talk about which of the three you are most interested in and why - this was part of what you were asked to do last week and I think I was quite clear about this. Edit this post and add more detail, make it more focused towards the POTENTIAL projects you could make with one or all of the themes.

You haven't posted your initial sketch ideas which we worked on in the last AP1 session last week - these need to be added to your blog in a new post with commentary on each one and thoughts on how you might develop them.
