WEEK THREE: MAJOR PROJECT INITIAL IDEA
Major Project Initial Ideas
For this term my first idea was to create a design of urban
redevelopment in Nigeria but focus on redeveloping a small area in the capital
of Nigeria to design a community village centre where every Nigerian irrespective
of who you are, can come to the community centre and be in a safe zone without
any discrimination, just come together and have fun. This idea came to fruition
because I spent my entire life in Nigeria and I have witnessed the inequities
in the country between the rich, the middle class, and the poor, this design is
aimed at being a small step in promoting equality amongst all Nigerians
What is Urban
Redevelopment?
Urban redevelopment refers to the demolition and reconstruction or a considerable renovation of existing buildings or infrastructure within urban infill areas or existing urban service areas. This would lead to a much more sustainable and secure society or community (Urban Design Lab, 2022).
The second idea
I came up with is also based in Nigeria but this one is about designing a
boarding school where student can come and be shaped into their best possible
self. Some schools in Nigeria focus just on academics which is not entirely a
bad thing but they suppress whatever talent these children have and force them
into pursuing a goal that they are not passionate about.
